Are these treatments and botox for migraines covered by Insurance?

The cutting-edge techniques that we provide for chronic headaches (Botox, Nerve Blocks and Surgery) are covered by many insurance companies. However, some insurance companies may not provide coverage for them. You may therefore be required to pay “out-of-pocket” for these procedures.

In order to be covered by conventional health insurance companies, a treatment must be approved by the United States’ Food and Drug Administration. This is an in-depth, extensive process that may take many years. In 2010, Botox was approved by the FDA as a migraine treatment.

Because it is an FDA approved treatment, Botox for migraines is covered by insurance in most cases. For it to be covered, it must be shown to be medically necessary for the patient. In cases of chronic migraine, the prospective Botox patient must have a formal medical diagnosis indicating he or she suffers from migraines. In some cases, it may also be necessary to have tried other treatments before an insurance company will approve Botox.

Support from an experienced migraine specialist

When you work with an experienced headache specialist who understands your situation, the approval process can be accelerated. We are happy to provide documentation of our evaluation and care to insurance companies, complete with diagnostic and treatment codes. We will work with you to establish your migraine diagnosis with your insurance company, and we will help demonstrate that you are not pursuing Botox for cosmetic reasons and that it is indeed necessary.

We have many patients from across the United States who come to us for treatments such as Botox for migraines covered by insurance, as Dr. Rosenberg is one of about 20 surgeons with sufficient experience to perform these actions with the expected results.

We understand that challenges may be involved in getting your treatment approved by your insurance, and we will work on your behalf to support you. However, if your insurance company denies coverage, the patient is ultimately responsible for payment. Office charges must be paid at the time of your visit, and migraine surgery fees must be paid at least two weeks in advance of your surgery date.
